Have you caught your breath yet from the excitement of the Vancouver
Olympics? There are scenes from those games that will be played over and
over on our television screens and recalled time after time in our
conversations. These scenes will include Alex Bilodeau receiving Canada’s first
gold medal at home; Kevin Martin’s curling team, the Women’s hockey team and
many others wearing their gold medals to the playing of our
National Anthem, not to mention all the other winners who did not receive
gold; the emotional picture of Joannie Rochette skating through heart-
breaking grief to win a bronze; and of course Sidney Crosby’s dramatic winning
goal (assisted by Jarome Iginla) to bring a significant 14th gold medal to
Canada! These are scenes we’ll not soon forget.
As important as these scenes are, there are more important scenes
surrounding the Easter story that will be brought to our attention during this
holy season. Fanny Crosby (no relation to Sidney) wrote the words “Near the
cross! O Lamb of God, Bring its scenes before me.” As we
approach Easter, let each one of us allow God to “Bring its scenes before me”
as we view the scenes in Scripture that are played out for our
salvation and His glory. Let those scenes create an even greater impact on us
than the 2010 Olympic scenes.
Blessings on all of you today!
